Each year, we are lucky to have two Art Therapy interns from the School of Visual Arts’ Master’s in Art Therapy Program. They offer creative open art making sessions as well as group and individual art therapy sessions for our scholars at both residential sites.
This year, our intern, William McMillin at our boys' site, has been offering table tennis. This started as a way to release stress, connect as a community and have fun, but has grown in functioning as an important therapeutic outlet for the boys. In the club, focus has been on self-awareness, group cohesion, and the promotion of healthy self-esteem.
This past weekend, two scholars represented our partner school, Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School, the Catholic High School Athletic Association (CHSAA) and Boys Hope Girls Hope of New York at the 2019 Mayors Cup Tournament. Additionally, this group’s effort will culminate in a community-wide showcase and introduction to the growing sport, led by the group’s members.
