Our residential staff is responsible for the wellness, safety, and growth of the young men and women in our care. As described in our mission statement, our vision is that our scholars reach their full potential and become healthy, productive life-long learners. The scholars enter our program as teenagers - a time of great growth - and it is our responsibility to nurture that growth.
At BHGH of NY, we endeavor to nurture Dignity, Compassion, Vision, and Courage, in our scholars. We express these values through Excellence in Leadership, Academic Achievement, Community Engagement, Global Fluency, and Personal Actualization.
Select scholars receive Value Awards that correlate with our core values monthly. We use the Value Awards to highlight and honor scholars who have made significant and notable strides in service of their own development and to the benefit of the community. We celebrate and acknowledge them in community and program-wide newsletters, on social media, and at our monthly all-program gatherings.
Recipients of our value awards are scholars who changed their habits to strive and subsequently achieve better grades. They are scholars who willingly volunteer a substantial amount of their time and energy in service of others. They are scholars who support their peers through sad and trying times. They are scholars who take leadership roles without titles or expectation of a reward, to better our community.
Each Value Award is adorned with the following quote from esteemed poet Kahlil Gibran: “I slept and I dreamed that life is all joy. I woke and I saw that life is all service. I served and I saw that service is joy.” With these awards, we celebrate our scholars for their achievements, honor their growth, and thank them for their contributions to the BHGH community.
