In May 2018, Boys Hope Girls Hope of New York was awarded an in-kind grant from BRIC Arts Media to join their New York Emmy-winning BRIC Media Share program for the 2018 cohort. The in-kind grant awarded each year to 10 Brooklyn-based non-profit organizations offers free classes, mentorship, training, and access to equipment with the goal of helping the nonprofits create and use media to tell their stories.
Throughout the course of 9 months, two BHGH of NY staff, Chelsea Pittman, Development Manager, and Martin Torres, Dean of LaSalle Hall, worked closely with BRIC Associate Director of Partnerships, Julie Strum, and their BRIC-appointed mentor, Brooklyn-based filmmaker, Gisela Sanders Alcantara, to ultimately create a final project that was screened along with the other organizations’ projects in the BRIC ballroom this past February.
The final project, a profile piece on Decision Day, a block-party celebration where BHGH of NY’s senior scholars reveal which college they will be attending, will be shown at the 2019 Vision of Hope Awards Dinner in front of over 500 guests and supporters, as well as broadcasted on all BRIC public access channels and their YouTube!
Thank you to BRIC for believing in Boys Hope Girls Hope of New York’s mission to help NYC’s youth-in-need to meet their full potential, and for giving us the tools to tell that story.
