Soul Sisters Collective: Dressing the Part

This year, Boys Hope Girls Hope is partnering with Soul Sisters Collective (SSC), a "tight-knit and rapidly growing community of over 100 NYC-based women dedicated to the support and success of women everywhere." Founder and CEO, Amber Shirley, has been looking for ways to give back to the community and empower the soul sisters of tomorrow, and has found the opportunity in our remarkable young women.

Our first event, "Dressing the Part," was geared toward teaching our girls how to dress for the jobs they want, as well as how to dress their body type. This started with a circle-style discussion about inner and outer beauty, the importance of self-esteem and how clothing can be used to exude strength. Amber, along with a PR Executive, Fashion Designer, On-Camera Host/Comedienne, Creative Career Coach, Plus Size Model, Life Coach, and Executive Assistant all lead the discussion and brought their own experiences in their various industries to the table.

After the discussion, our girls had a chance to practice what they discussed by having our guests act as their personal shoppers using racks of clothes, shoes, and bags provided by SSC. After the shopping dust settled, our girls were allowed to keep the outfits they chose, along with anything else that was left over. The event was a great success and we are looking forward to our next event in November. Check out some photos from the event below!
