Brides Against Breast Cancer
February

Brides Against Breast Cancer™ is an organization that uses proceeds from selling donated wedding gowns at discounted prices to fund programs for cancer patients, their families and caregivers. The organization's outreach and educational efforts during its “Nationwide Tour of Gowns” bridal shows around the country help ensure that people impacted by cancer have the resources and information they need in their battle with cancer.  On Sunday February 23, the organization held an event in New York City and a group of 8 Girls Hope scholars served as volunteered.

The scholars arrived promptly at 1:45pm in front of Zanger Hall, full of excitement for the opportunity to assist future brides in finding the right dress for their special day. They warmly welcomed all guests and were responsible for assisting with dress retrieval and making sure trains and veils were arranged properly. The brides-to-be were very involved with the scholars and even sought them out for opinions, which our scholars willingly gave. Many of the girls were surprised at the steep cost of a wedding dress and were pleased to know that the participants would be able to acquire beautiful dresses at such a discounted rate. Each of the brides had their own personal story of their battle with cancer and it was such a privilege for the girls to be able to bear witness to their strength and happiness in the midst of their current circumstances.
